IN MEMORIAM
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved founder and president, Malcolm Weston Bonawits, has passed away. The company he founded 41 years ago is still in operation, and all of us who work in it will sorely miss him.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA and raised in Plymouth, PA, in his youth he was an athlete and in later years an avid golfer. Malcolm was also a proud veteran, having enlisted after graduation from Plymouth High School and serving in the U.S. Air Force as a crew chief on C-130 airplanes during the Vietnam conflict. After receiving his honorable discharge he attended East Stroudsburg University and Stroudsburg School of Cosmetology, and upon graduation in 1976 he started his company, opening his first salon as owner-operator in Mount Pocono that same year.
Malcolm had a lifelong interest in politics and civic affairs, and strongly believed in being involved in his community. He has actively participated in several local, state and national organizations throughout his career. Malcolm received several honors during this time, among them induction into the Hall of Fame of the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators (PAPSA), the Role Model in the Cosmetology Industry recognition from the Cosmetology Advancement Foundation, a nomination for the Salon Entrepreneur of the Year - Global Salon Business award, and a “Bizzy” award from the Pocono Mountains Chamber of Commerce. But his proudest accomplishment was always his company. A testament to his abilities and his gift for people are the many stylists who ten, twenty, and almost thirty years after they started remain with the company and consider him both a beloved father figure and an admired mentor.
In addition to his many accomplishments, business acumen, and political savvy, he will be remembered for his love of family, his loyalty to his friends, and his passion for animals, especially for his beloved Basset hounds. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in his memory to the Animal Welfare Society of Monroe (AWSOM), 3129 Godfrey Ridge Road, Stroudsburg, PA 18360, or to the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, 361 Cherry Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
The Malcolm’s Haircutters team he established and mentored is committed to continuing his legacy, providing quality hair services and excellence in customer relations in the same way it has been done during the past 41 years.
A memorial service is planned for April.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

BASEBALL VS CANCER
Malcolm’s Haircutters is proud to have participated in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders’ Baseball Vs. Cancer fundraiser on July 22nd. This is the third year in which our stylists shaved heads to raise money to fight childhood cancer. Thousands of dollars have been raised at these events. This was a wonderful event for a wonderful cause, and we were so honored to be asked to participate. Hope to see you at next year’s event!
20 YEARS!
Lisa, from our Dallas salon, celebrated her 20th year with Malcolm's Haircutters last month. While Lisa was attending beauty school, she first came to Malcolm's on a school outing to the Dallas salon. She became a training stylist shortly after meeting us and hasn't looked back. Lisa excels in all areas, but coloring became her forte. Highlights, lowlights, all over color, or corrective; Lisa has a natural talent and a good eye for knowing what color looks best. Her commitment to our clients, her co-workers, and company while being a full-time mother and wife are a testament to her professionalism and her tenacity. ALWAYS LEARNING THE LATEST
Our stylists have been very busy honing their skills with the latest in color and cutting techniques. Malcolm’s Haircutters recently hosted Guest Educator Meg English, from the Davines Italian line of hair color. Stylists were treated to a first-hand experience with this innovative European color line. One of our favorites, Sebastian Educator Michael Vaughn from New York City shared the latest cutting techniques for fine and thinning hair with our stylists. We also welcomed Jay Williams, Principal Educator for Genesis Brand, who discussed with our stylists the science of customer service as part of mastering their craft. Melanie took on the role of Manager in our Dallas salon until motherhood came calling. MALCOLM’S HAIRCUTTERS…GIVING BACK
‘Tis the season of giving back. At Malcolm's Haircutters, we believe in “look good, feel good” moments for everyone. This year we celebrate our 40th year in business, a feat not achieved by many hair salons, so we wanted to give back to the communities that have supported us. With the help of the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center in the Poconos, NROC in Dunmore, and The Oncology Associates in Kingston, seven patients who had lost their hair due to cancer treatments were chosen to receive wigs. Each of the seven women met with our General Manager, Susanne, and received a full consultation consisting of measurement for proper fitting, style, and color choice. When the wigs were delivered, they were also styled and adjusted to each recipient. In addition to wigs, the women received hair care products from our Malcolm's line, a styling tool, and a wig stand. It was truly humbling to feel the gratitude from these ladies, and we’re honored to have been able to assist in their journey to recovery by helping restore confidence through the gift of great hair. Special thanks to Susanne, for her focus and dedication to making this possible. And lest we forget the caregivers, several local oncology nurses will receive Malcolm's Haircutters gift cards in recognition and appreciation for all they do.

Malcolm’s Haircutters is all about giving our stylists the latest information in the hair industry. On September 6th, our stylists attended a REDKEN product workshop. Deb Palacios, REDKEN Educator from the Reading, PA area shared her knowledge of REDKEN products through a hands-on workshop at our Corporate Education facility in Mount Pocono.
On September 19th, stylists attended a WELLA Color Trends class for autumn/winter. Guest Educator, Gionni, from New York City demonstrated this season’s hottest color looks, while the stylists duplicated the designs on mannequins. Our stylists are excited to bring these trends to you!
On September 27th, stylists attended a REDKEN Haircutting Trends. Deb Palacios, REDKEN Educator from the Reading, PA area, demonstrated the latest techniques and trends in haircutting. Our stylists worked hands-on and augmented to their already proficient haircutting skills.

Malcolm’s Haircutters is proud to have participated in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders’ Baseball Vs. Cancer fundraiser. Our stylists shaved heads to raise money to fight childhood cancer. Over $11,000 was raised that evening, which exceeded last year’s outcome. This was a wonderful event for a wonderful cause, and we were so honored to be asked to participate. On May 9th, stylists attended the Men’s Haircutting Trends Class at our Corporate Training Facility in Mount Pocono. Guest Educator Joe Chesbro, a REDKENMEN educator and salon-owner from New York, shared the latest in men’s hair trends with our stylists.
On May 16th, Guest Educator, Timothy Walker, a WELLA Editorial Stylist and “Stylist to the Stars” from New Jersey, held a Style Craft class at our Corporate Training Facility for our stylists. He used the WELLA EIMI line of haircare products to show up-styling techniques and creating works of art.
Also in May, and just in time for summer, stylists attended the Fundamentals of Highlighting held at our Corporate Training Facility in Mount Pocono. Our guest was L’Oréal Educator and New Jersey salon owner Tina Manzella. She taught the latest trends and techniques in foiling from the L’Oréal Professional family.
The 2016 TREND VISION AWARDS are Wella Corporation’s biggest showcase for hairdressing talent.
